Committees

The GHRA urges you to get active and be recognized for your commitment to the Association. Under the direction of this year’s president, we have some great ways for you to network with the membership, increase exposure of your business and have a great time while doing so.

Government Affairs Committee
Whether it’s regulation of wages, insurance rates, tax rates, liquor licensing, food handling, equipment purchasing or any number of other issues, politics directly influence our industry. Each year, we travel to Washington, D.C., to address industry-related legislation with our national politicians. Texas has the largest state delegation in D.C. representing the industry, making our impact significant and our ideas well represented. Additionally, every other year we travel to Austin to meet with our state officials and discuss current issues.

Education Committee
The Education Committee focuses on raising the level of excellence in the industry by better educating members, students and educators about the tools and services the Association can provide. Learn about culinary programs in area high schools, food safety courses, joining the Speakers Bureau or being a mentor to someone who is just starting out. This committee helps drive helpful communication to members and the community, and is the force behind quality programs and opportunities.

Membership Committee HRA 021909 111
The Membership Committee is the backbone to recruitment and networking. They lay the foundation for member-to-member networking opportunities and offer a variety of exciting workshops, dinners, discussions and special events wherein members can meet and mingle. This committee creates platforms for members to increase exposure, recruits new membership and reinforces the benefits of the Association to existing members.

Fundraising Committee
The GHRA produces three major fundraisers a year: the Gourmet Gala, Cookout and Golf Tournament, all with attendance of 300 or more. Each event is designed to raise funds for various culinary schools, programs and charities, while providing a good time for members and industry-related dignitaries. The fundraising committee promotes GHRA events, researches theme ideas for events, helps solicit auction item donations and assists with overall event coordination. If you enjoy parties (both behind the scenes and in the limelight) this is one committee you’ll fit right into.
